The Suter Gallery - Te Aratoi O Whakatü

Regional gallery devoted to the region's art heritage with changing exhibitions and a craft shop. The collection includes more than 40 watercolours by John Gully and more than 100 drawings and watercolours by Nelson artist Tosswill Woollaston, who was inspired by Cezanne.

There is a famous 1909 portrait by Gottfried Lindauer of Huria Matenga, a Maori woman who with her husband and friends saved many lives from the wreck of the American ship Delaware in 1863. The painting was was commissioned by the people of Nelson after her death in 1908.

The gallery café looks out on to the Queen's Gardens.
