St Cuthbert's Church

Main Road Governor's Bay
Ohinetahi, Canterbury
The foundation stone was laid in 1860, and the church constructed from cob walls faced with volcanic rock. Legend has it that the cobblestones of the porch floor were carried up from the beach in ladies' aprons.

The cobblestone construction did not fare well in the September 2010 Canterbury earthquake and St Cuthbert's was one of the worst hit churches..
