MSCS Building (Mathematics and Statistics and Computer Science Building)

University of Canterbury
Ilam, Canterbury
Auckland-based practice Architectus (Patrick Clifford) won their spurs with this low energy use passive design for the mathematics, computer science and statistics building (1999). Ove Arup and Partners were the environmental consultants. The carefully designed building is highly rated by its occupants and is dramatic architecturally.

The box like arrangement of the lecturer's offices appears to owe a debt to Louis Kahn's Salk Institute.
