Red Cross Building (Former)

Corner 200 Willis Street and Ghuznee Street
Wellington, Wellington
A medical practitioner built this half-timbered Tudor style building in 1908.
It was occupied through the middle part of the twentieth Century by the Wellington branch of the Red Cross. It is currently owned by Historic Properties Limited and is leased to an architectural firm

The architect was William Turnbull. The interest in this building lies partly in it's location on a prominent corner in the city, but mainly in it's character and apparent construction, being made of half-timber, where Timber framing is stuffed with Cob or brick, most commonly seen in sixteenth century English villages. It was actually constructed using more modern techniques but is seen as a genuine and attractive reproduction.
