Trelissick Park - Ngaio Gorge Track

Ngaio Gorge
Wadestown, Wellington
A narrow valley, once a route north out of Wellington for Maoris and Europeans is now a wilderness walking track following the Kaiwharwhara stream. The efforts of a working group planting thousands of trees, removing weeds, and erecting bridges have created a natural area for recreation very close to and yet removed from the City.

At its inland (western) end the Gorge Track meets up with and becomes part of the Northern Walkway.

Features of interest include an historic magazine building and fish ladders.

TRANSPORT
Access to the park is from several entrances off the Ngaio Gorge Road. Bus routes 43 and 45 travel up the Gorge. Use the Wellington Travel Planner to find a time to suit you.

There is also a Wadestown entrance on Hanover Street.
