Bastion Point

In the 1880s Bastion Point was one of the places where fortifications were built to defend the city in case of attack. There are panoramic harbour views
In the 1980s Bastion Point was the focus of a long Ngati Whatua occupation protesting about the alienation of Maori land.

A memorial to Australian born Michael Joseph Savage, New Zealand's much-loved first Labour Prime Minister and founder of the welfare state, sits on the Point.

This is a stop for the Auckland Explorer Bus.
