Rangiatea Church

The Historic Rangiatea church at Otaki has been rebuilt after a fire in 1995.

Rangiatea's architecture represents a unique blend of Maori and English church design. The Ngati Toa chief, Te Rauparaha provided some of the materials and labour for the construction of Rangiatea.

The original church had an 86 foot long Totara ridge pole supported by three adzed Totara trunks. The interior of the rebuilt church recreates the splendour of the original.

The church is open for viewing on weekday mornings.
