Thousands of wading birds from the Arctic tundra, along with similar numbers of New Zealand breeding shorebirds are present at Miranda each year. The Miranda Shorebird Centre is an information and education centre, and a lodge for accommodation. The Firth of Thames is a wetland of International Significance.
Two short walking tracksfrom the Shorebird centre,, one to the North (5 mins)and one to the South (30 mins) enable you to go bird-watching. Binoculars are handy.
